Access
The ground floor of the building is fully accessible. A pathway slopes gently to double entrance doors and a light, spacious entrance lobby. The Monnow Room at the front of the building can be accessed from the lobby. There is some space in the stairwell for baby buggies and a disabled toilet including baby changing table is accessed off the lobby. The main hall has been transformed and extended so that natural light shines into the middle of the hall while light flows through bi-fold doors, which look out over the garden. It is easy to move from the hall to the garden as there are no ridges or steps to deal with. The garden has paving along 4 sides around a lawn. It is enclosed by a wrought iron gate, which can only be opened by activating a switch at adult height. The kitchen has been designed for ease of access. Crockery, pots and pans are stored in deep drawers, with fridge, freezer and dishwater handles at worktop height.
The stairs are wide and well-lit, with a small landing half way up where the stairs turn. There is no lift or other aid to assist access to the first floor. There are rails along the pathway and on both sides of the stairs.
There is also a hearing induction system on the ground floor.
